You would be forgiven for not knowing that April 28th, 2024 marks the Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day. On this fast approaching date, lensless photographers from around the globe will use their collective cameras to capture a unique slice of everyday life.
If you ask any pinhole veteran “What is the most challenging challenge in creating a successful image?” the answer will almost always be “determining the proper exposure.”
You can imagine that producing a successful print with a pinhole is not easy. First, you need to buy/make a pinhole film camera. Second, you have to determine the proper exposure in order to produce a print. And finally, it’s time for developing/printing. can opt for digital solutions but an analog photographic process is more suitable for taking pinhole photographs. Doesn’t it? Therein lies another potential roadblock. How do you know that your exposure is correct ?
This problem can be solved by adding instant photographs in the setup of the pinhole camera. This 60-second development sequence, from snapping to a successful pinhole photo, eliminates exposure concerns and allows you to focus on your creativity.
How is this solution possible? The 4×5-inch instant pinhole camera in Figure 1 is the result of combining two unlikely bedfellows who come from opposite ends in the analog film industry.
