Since I received the DJI Osmo pocket 3 just over four month ago, I have used it almost every day as my primary travel, YouTube, and vlogging camera. This review won’t cover all the features, but will focus on those that I use.
This camera is my primary YouTube camera for when I travel or am out and about. It’s what I use to record my travels, and make YouTube videos. I have shot almost all of my videos in the past few months on the Pocket 3 – either partially or completely.
The main purpose of the camera is to record basic videos. It’s not uncommon for me to take photos, but they are mostly used as YouTube thumbnails. In terms of video, I can use it either as a POV, or give it to another person to film me, or even set it up on tripod and let it follow me with the smart tracking mode.
Ergonomics of the Osmo Pocket 3.
You will not enjoy it if you have large hands and use the camera with no grips or extensions. If you add the small extension, or you have small hands like me, the fit will be great.
It’s small size is its main selling point. The device is small enough to fit in your pocket. It’s also always ready for use. It is easy to switch it on and record. Turn the screen on to start recording and then hit record.
The red record button also turns on the camera. I can’t remember how many times my camera has accidentally been turned on by accident in a pocket or bag. If it happens, nothing bad will happen. Just battery drain.
The included case is bulky, and will solve this problem. The ergonomics of this camera are excellent. It is also a pleasure to use. The interface is intuitive, responsive and smooth. It is also large and easy to use.
Battery is amazing. The battery is insane. It will easily last a whole day and charge up faster than you can imagine. Plugging it in at 40% and having a cup of coffee, I would charge the phone to around 90%.
If I could change one thing, I would add a tripod mount to the body itself without needing an extension.
Build Quality and Reliability
Some people have experienced many problems with their Pocket 3. But I haven’t had any major issues. The gimbal did get sticky when I went to sleep/woke up. The gimbal was stuck closed when I switched on the camera. It took a push to open it.
I had no problems once the lid was open. The gimbal also got stuck when I went to sleep and required some assistance. It happened about a month after I bought the phone, but it has now resolved and all is well. The rest of the time, I had no problems.
