It appears that Sigma is not the only company today to make their relationship with Canon known. Tamron also announced that they are making autofocus lens for Canon RF-mount cameras. They’re starting off with a wide-angle zoom.
The Tamron 11-20mm Di III-A B060 (click here) is a lens currently available for Sony E or Fuji X mounts. It’s not an official launch announcement, but rather a development one.
Tamron 11-20mm f/2.8 Canon RF – Coming Soon!
This is a development announcement. It’s already available in Sony E and Fuji X mountings. The Sony E mount version was launched in April 2021, while the development of the Fuji X Mount version was announced in February.
Fuji photographers didn’t need to wait long to get their hands on the new lens. We began to see online reviews in June. It may seem like forever, but four months is not so long.
We might see the same release schedule again. Sigma will release one of its new lenses in July. The rest of them are not due until the end of this year. Tamron’s release date is still a mystery.
Nikon Z is not compatible with the Nikon Z yet
It is interesting to me that this lens will be available for Canon RF mount before the Nikon Z mount. Nikon opened up their mount a lot earlier than Canon even though they were a bit strict. Tamron has other Z mount autofocus lens in their lineup.
Will this ever come to Nikon Z? Will existing Nikon Z Tamron lens be ported to Canon RF? Maybe. Maybe. Mount licensing has become more complicated than in the early days of DSLRs.
Tamron has not given any hints, but we can expect to hear an announcement as soon as it is official.
