The TL30 light from the K2 Pack is actually a good one.

After the “man shouts at the clouds” section is over, I am able to speak about why this little light is very versatile and powerful in the right situations.

I wanted to make sure that any misinformation was clear, so I contacted Essential Photo in the U.K. to request this product for testing and playing with. As usual, I will talk about the product and give my opinion, but I’ll return it once I am done. To be clear, this is not a paid article.

This little light was requested to test theories about light drop-off. In this case, LEDs were used. I’m sure that long-time readers have heard me say this several times, but LED lights are very different from strobes.

You’ve done some really innovative thinking, haven’t you? Jake: “Yes, Jake. LEDs and strobes are totally different. “We get it!” No, I am not referring to flash durations or outputs. I’m talking about light spread and light fall-off.

LED lights and their unique light drop-off

You can read my previous article about it here: Affordable LED Tubes

As we examine these TL30K2 (cute, right?) I want to make sure that we are aware of the main thing. They’ll allow us to focus light on a small area, without spreading it to other areas. The diagram below shows how LED tubes drop off compared to a single point strobe.
