You know how difficult it can be to communicate with a team on set. Some teams use transceivers or phone calls. Others use apps such as Zello. They have a number of problems. The audio quality can be poor and they are difficult to set up. You can’t talk while another person is talking.

Saramonic’s WiTalk system ( 329- 1,999), provides a superior experience for on-set communication than any other option. The system solves the issues of walkie talkies from audio quality to setup. It’s also a full duplex system. This means that everyone can hear and talk to each other, unlike half-duplex systems.

Saramonic WiTalk, a headless system of intercoms in the form a few pairs of headphones. Saraminoc, unlike traditional intercom systems has cleverly hidden the hub within one of the headphones. The system must work with the Master headset.

WiTalk uses 1.9GHz instead of the usual 2.4GHz. This is a positive thing. It is better to use a frequency that is less popular, because there are less devices using the same frequency. This is especially useful at conventions such as IBC , where we actually first introduced the WiTalk set.

The set can be used to communicate with five people – one with the master unit, and four with receiver units. For 299, you can purchase the WiTalk hub, which allows you to expand your network up to eight users. WiTalk Hub has a group feature: A channel and B channel each support up to four devices. You can cascade hubs with a TRRS-TRRS adapter cable if nine units is not enough. The network can now be expanded to include 17 users.

WiTalk is available in a variety of bundles. The WiTalk set is available in different bundles. From the basic set which only includes two headsets, (a master and receiver), to the large set which contains a master unit and eight receivers. Bundles are more expensive than buying individual units. The smaller bundles come with a case. The larger bundles include larger cases. The larger sets also include the hub mentioned above, as well as a multi-charger to power the removable batteries.

Saramonic WiTalk: ergonomics

Comfort is important if you plan to wear them for a full production day. Let’s start with the earpads. They are good. The earpads didn’t cause my ears to sweat, but it’s winter in the UK, so testing was limited. The earpads, which are made of artificial leather, warm up faster than foam pads. After wearing the headphones for two hours, they still felt comfortable .
